As you may or may not know, the HTML standard for email is a mess. There is no defined standard, it is more a way of coding that is a reliable as we can get in as many email platforms as we can.

Web Fonts in Email

Overall, universal support for web fonts isn't there yet, but if you have a client with a large mobile user base, and adapt a graceful degradation approach where it's ok if fonts default back to Arial, then there's an opportunity to do some cool stuff.

As mentioned by Brian Thies in the comments below, Hotmail have now released an update to their platform that fixes this bug, therefore designers don't need to take any action to update their code.
